Emerald Holiday Decor in Color of the Year

Last week's announcement of the Pantone Color of the Year couldn't have come a moment too soon. For those of us who like to get a jump on next year's design trends, the rich hue of emerald is perfect for our holiday home decor. Try it mixed with other shades of green like spruce and hunter for a monochromatic look. Or experiment with a luxe, polished sensibility as I've done in this inspiration board and team it up with black and gold.

Emerald Color of the Year in Holiday Decor

I love experimenting with color palettes like this when entertaining and dining; you're able to get a taste of the trend without making a huge budget or space commitment. Set simple centerpieces in emerald vases—rosemary trees are inexpensive, fragrant, and they last a long time. Magnolia wreaths are an elegant and unexpected alternative to the usual evergreen variety, and the gold undertones in their leaves tie in nicely with gilt serving pieces and accents. Touches of black - such as on chalkboard menus - add drama for a festive but sophisticated accent to your holiday decor.

Emerald might be the Color of the Year for 2013, but we can use it to make the final weeks of 2012 feel stylish too!
