Christmas is five days away. You've got all your gifts wrapped, your holiday cards written and mailed, your menus planned and prepped...and...what? That hysterical laughter you hear? That's me, because I have none of those things done. And I'll bet there's a chance you're still scrambling on at least one front. That's just the nature of this time of year, after all. So I like to keep a list of last-minute home decor gifts in my back pocket—items that I can call upon if I need something for my hostess, a client, a white elephant party, or that distant relative who dropped in unannounced.
Candleholders are a great example of a last-minute all-purpose gift. They're versatile, they have a warm and wintry appeal, and everyone has a use for them at one time or another. Look for stylistically basic pieces (nothing flashy!) in neutral materials. Similarly, a comfy knit throw or pair of decorative pillows in an on-trend print like chevron is a can't-miss bet. Accessories that can be swapped and stored when seasons and fashions change are a no-pressure but thoughtful gesture, and they give your recipient lots of options.
And really, isn't choice the best gift of all?
