Don’t ask a designer what their New Year’s design resolutions are, because you will probably not hear, “Go to the gym more often” or “give up sweets.” We are an insane bunch who can’t stop obsessing over interiors and how we can constantly update them without going broke. That said, I do have some musts for 2013. Curious?
1. Begin to Use Emerald Green. I know it’s the Pantone color of the year, but besides that, it adds a real punch of color into a room. I happen to love it with navy and white. I know some designers may Oz-up an entire room, but I’m much more cautious and would only use it with accessories until I was sure it was the color for me. You might also think about recovering a chair or ottoman with emerald fabric. I would and pipe it in navy for a preppy look.
2. Get Something brass immediately. This is a no-brainer: from elegant wall lights and custom looking ceiling lights to kitchen hardware and table legs, I am sold. I also think this trend will last a while, so investing in brass is probably better than the parachute pants you had in the 80s.
3. Buy something modernist. I can be stuck in a rut like everybody else and never step out of my comfort zone. I have always admired modernist furniture but never took the plunge, 2013 may be the year. Like taking baby steps with color, for me, adding modernist furniture will probably start with a chair or bench. The wishbone chair has caught my eye many times in the past and could be the perfect breakfast room chair.
