Sometimes you see a room, or an outfit, and think, "I never would have put those colors together." I admit to not having been a huge fan of pink and navy rooms, but it's definitely grown on me. When done right of course. The secret, judging from these spaces, is to maintain relatively straight lines and a certain degree of symmetry. The navy demands it, and the pink is femme enough to skip the flounces. Let's have a look.
Royal navy and bubble gum pink is an out of the ordinary color combination for a living room, but Mary McDonald's bold presentation is irresistible. And, if you look carefully, you'll see that the foundation is comprised completely of blue and white elements; the pinks are simply pops of books, pillows, and a great piece of artwork. That way, if you tire of the Barbie-esque hue (or your beau moves in and objects), you can easily swap them out for accessories of another hue. While McDonald opted for elegant blue table lamps, we're partial to pink.

Interior designer Jamie Meares of Furbish Studio created a strong but still feminine pink and navy scheme in this Raleigh, NC home. Navy walls trimmed in crisp white and punctuated with white accessories, anchor the space, while chevron napkins and floral china add flavor. For another infusion of fun, we'd add chevron dining room lighting too.

This living room, featured in Connecticut Cottages and Gardens Magazine, has a formal layout—note the pairs of matching table lamps, cocktail tables, and end tables. However, the dusty blue and pink color scheme, global-inspired ikat pillows, and oversize photographs add a bohemian flair.

This girl's room is a longtime favorite of mine. Designed by Amanda Nisbet for her daughter, it strikes just the right amount of femininity (the color, after all, is predominantly pink!) with simple tailoring (upholstered bed, Roman shade). The Greek key pattern on the headboard and rug provide classic geometric contrast with the softer swirl of the ikat pillow and contemporary floral wall art.
