Nothing makes me more insane than a cluttered work environment. If you make one resolution this year, please make it be about keeping a tidy home office. House of Turquoise had some inspirational images of offices so enjoy. My obsession begins by projecting what type of space I will need to do my taxes and clutter only makes that task harder to handle. Thus, everything needs to be in it’s place, easy to find and bright enough light to keep me awake. I understand some people resorting to installing coffee makers in their home offices, but for me LED desk lamps and chocolate work just fine.
I love a cubby! Not as much as a peanut butter cup, but who can store files in peanut butter cup? Cubbies allow you to store everything in the home office from files and books to baskets full of wonky sized accessories. Please take advantage of dead space under eaves in attics or under a seat to find that extra space. Any chance you get to remove items from a surface is manna from heaven. Keep in mind cubbies can become a dumping ground so be mindful when filling them. Keeping an office bright also forces you to confront “stuff.” Bright desk lamps are great unless you have a small space, that’s when swing arm wall lights work best.
Obviously function is key, but a home office should also be chic. Infusing your space with colorful paint, wallpaper, rugs and fabrics is an inexpensive way to keeps the look interesting. I love seeing the unexpected light fixtures in these offices. Decorative pendants usually found in kitchens makes a perfect over-the-desk light. Thinking creatively and outside of the box may result in the perfect no-nonsense place to work!
