Vintage bath style can be interpreted in many ways. From recreating an old-fashioned farmhouse bathroom to designing a slick Art Deco loo, as long as there have been bathrooms it could probably be considered vintage if the bathroom is ten years old or more! Lonny has wonderful interior pictures and I was able to find a wide array of vintage styled bathrooms to enjoy.
Depending on the style bathroom you have interpreted, creating a vintage style can be done with some basic design tricks. Hardware, lighting, wall treatment and accessories. Granted, it would be hard to “do” Victorian if you live in a 1980s condo. However, if you chose to live in a condo chances are you don’t like Victorian anyway!
I like how these interiors rely on tile and painted walls to evoke a mood and are made vintage through lighting and fixtures. Bathroom lighting fixtures is key. Obviously we need light to get ready but these spaces were mindful of matching the antique brass sconces to faucets or white metal ceiling lights to the crisp white stenciled detailing.
Consider wallpaper or pattern to help make a design statement. Whether on the walls, in shower curtains or in wall art, pattern also can create a vintage statement. One common thread in these spaces are the plain white bath fixtures enhanced by everything that surrounds them, including unique wall lights.
Prefer a monochromatic space? It can still be vintage but with an edge. I think Deco looks best in this form and is easier to create in simple spaces and basic builder bathrooms.
1. Nothing says vintage like the Crystorama Multicolor Lantern Pendant Chandelier.
3. While the Feiss Urban Renewal Dark Antique Brass Sconce looks vintage, it is very hip and chic.
3. The Stratford Wall Sconce is a modern version of early 20th Century lights.
