This year the Kips Bay Decorator Showhouse is celebrating its 43rd year. 43!
I have wonderful memories of my mother taking me to the showhouse every year. I would insist on keeping the program to myself and would pore over it in my bedroom for days after. I guess I caught the interior design bug early on!
22 top designers and architects participate in the showhouse which benefits the Boys and Girls Club of Kips Bay. Each designer has approximately eight weeks to transform their space in the legendary Arthur Sachs mansion.
They estimate that 20,000 people will cross the threshold of the manse to see the show this year!
Unfortunately, I wasn’t lucky enough to attend the show this year, but thankfully Architectural Digest has a series of images for us to collectively drool over:
Nearly 300 works of art line the walls of this gorgeous elliptical staircase designed by Philip Mitchell Design. The artwork is an eclectic mix of sketches, photographs, watercolors, and paintings.
Flea market finds blend seamlessly with the fine art on the gallery wall, which is also studded with plaster medallions as well as vases and other objets d’art sitting atop wall-mounted brackets.
This cheerful living room designed by Alessandra Branca has voile covered walls with flat trim highlighting the room’s architecture, a favorite technique of famed interior decorator David Hicks.
The man cave goes sophisticated in Alan Tanksley’s retreat. The color palette, grass cloth walls and walnut millwork keep this room feeling masculine.
What’s a man cave without a bar? The mirror-lined walls and glass shelves give the illusion that the room is larger than the closet it once was. I’m positively swooning over the blue lacquer walls and cabinets!
Thom Filicia’s living room is dotted with gold metallic accents, a major trend for 2015. All the different patterns and finishes add dimension and visual interest in this silver-gray monochromatic room.
I’m think I'm going to continue living vicariously through these images of the Kips Bay Decorator Showhouse for a while…
