Let's talk about guest rooms...The holidays are right around the corner, and for many of us that means out of town guests staying with you for extended periods of time. While this is a lovely and easy experience for some, for others it brings up a bit of anxiety.

Having well appointed guest quarters can certainly help smooth over the holiday season. If you have tons of close relatives, utilizing space and optimizing function is so important.

The double guest room is a design staple that plays off the double hotel room, while adding personal touches and personality.

If you have the space, you may want to consider transforming your guest room into a double suite so the maximum number of guests can sleep comfortably while indulging in holiday food and family time.

These double guest suites from Tidbits and Twine are beautifully executed and feel special and deliberate. It really makes a difference when each guest has their own bed, even if its a twin, versus having to blow up an air mattress.

As you'll see each bed vignette is a mirror image of the other, making the room feel cohesive and beautiful but offering personal space for each guest.

Another design detail you'll notice in these double guest rooms is a shared side table that functions as a nightstand for each bed.

Since you are dealing with small spaces and two beds versus one, you have to maximize space whenever possible, so instead of two side tables per bed, one larger surface in the center works perfectly and allows for each guest to have their personal belongings near.

Flanking the side walls with the beds and leaving an open walkway through the center of the room is another detail you will notice in these smaller guest quarters.

Its ok to eliminate access to one side of the bed as long as you keep a good amount of distance between the beds in the center.

As we discussed above, this center aisle is designated by one larger, shared nightstand.

You'll notice the use of decorative mirrors in a lot of these beautiful spaces.

One: the mirrors help to open up the space, offering the reflections across the room and helping to make the room feel larger.

Two: Mirrors reflect natural light really well and help to naturally brighten the light in the space, making it seem brighter and bigger than it may be.

Three: decorative mirrors are a beautiful way to frame each bed if you have a lower, less pronounced headboard.
