For the second installment of my 'Color Palette Inspiration Series' we are tackling the beautiful blues. Blue is a staple in interior design and has been for ages.
Ranging from pastels to deep indigo, blue has so much life yet its still immensely calming and rich. It can be sweet or powerful, subtle or intricate. However you want to interpret blues in your home space, its hard to go wrong.
This library stack really captivated me due to the generous variation in blue tones, and the way they play so well amongst each other. Below we will see how to get this ombre'd blue look in your home decor.
The blue spectrum can really start with a blueish-grey tone as you can see on the left side of the bookcase. These beautifully simple and subdued tones have a blue cast which makes them blend seamlessly with the stronger royal and navy blues aside them.
The same is true with furniture pieces. You just have to make sure you are skewing blue rather than yellow and you can create a space with a blue color blend that has a very wide range.
With a blue color palette, its so easy to find fun, interesting and unique pieces. Unlike neutrals that need a ton of variation in texture and tonality, when designing with blues, keep it more streamlined and let the color do the talking rather than the material, which allows the color to really shine. Of course texture variation is important, it should take a back seat to tonality and hue.
This blue linen barstool really reminded me of the inspiration image because of the yellow wooden legs and the parallel to the old wooden bookshelves.
With blues its OK to mix in neutrals as the color is such a strong point it can be helpful to simmer it down with hints of neutrals.
Interesting bar stools in a beautiful blue can really bring a room to life, adding character and depth.
Again, offsetting the bright and rich main color, this blue deco floor lamp has good accents and an ivory shade, which allows for the blue to have maximum impact.
OK - time for the fun! Smaller accessories or wall art can be a great way to bring in movement and pattern to your beautiful blue space.
These indigo Bedouin throw pillows have a vintage vibe and striking color variation that just captures the soul of the color blue to me.
And I purposely chose this large blue giclee canvas because of the small splash of red. If you notice there is one rogue red book on the shelf, and I have to honor its independence and uniqueness.
Do you prefer a neutral space, or is blue more your style?
