Spring is in the air, which is the perfect time to start thinking about refreshing your interiors. One of the easiest ways is through the use of home decor accessories. Things like decorative throw pillows, accessories, wall art and area rugs are easy ways to update your interiors as an alternative to a full-on remodel.

Decorative Throw Pillows

One of the least expensive ways to update a room's look is with beautiful decorative throw pillows. Throw pillows allow you to bring in fresh colors, patterns, or textures, sometimes all three at the same time!

One option is to add some new decorative pillows in the same color palette as your room with interesting textures. If you really want to mix things up, add pops of unexpected colors or patterns.

Despite what you may have heard in the past, you can mix patterns. To successfully mix patterns, make sure that there is at least one color in common and keep scale in mind. Choose one bold pattern and one less busy one to keep the mix from becoming overwhelming.

1 & 2 The combination of the Turquoise Geometric Velvet Pillow and the square Flicker Decorative Pillow works because both patterns feature turquoise and the patterns complement each other.

3 & 4 Bring texture into a design with pillows like the natural hair on hide Cloud Pillow and Arrowhead Pillow.

Lamps

New,stylish lamps can also change the look of a room. One of my favorite ways to introduce new colors and unique shapes is with table lamps.

1. Add a touch of color and metallic sheen with the Spencer Table Lamp in Tempest Metallic from the Lamps Plus Color Plus line.

2. The elegant twists in the Helen Table Lamp adds visual texture to a space in on-trend gold.

Accessories

Another quick, inexpensive way to update the look of the room is through vignettes of eye-catching home decor accessories. Swap out or create a new vignettes using books or collections of accessories or a combination of both.

As you are styling your vignette, don't forget The Rule of Three that says that three (or any odd number) objects placed together make it easier for the eye to find the center of the grouping, As our eyes are always seeking balance, this configuration makes the arrangement more visually appealing.

Two objects look off kilter, and one just looks lonely, but, as always, there are exceptions to the rule. Go ahead and experiment and see what works for you.

1, 2, & 3 Another thing to keep in mind when creating a vignette is levels. Mix up the heights of the elements of the vignette to keep it from looking flat. The combination of the (1) Kaleho Ivory Shell Sculpture, the (2) White Blade Coral Sculpture, and the(3) Rectangular Silver Table Clock works because it satisfies the Rule of Three and the different heights keep the eye moving.

Wall Art

Breathe a breath of fresh air into a room with new or updated wall art. Wall art is a great way to bring trends into your design as well as color and pattern,

Wall art also adds dimension to a space and keeps the walls from looking too severe and bare, and well, boring.

Three types of wall art from Lamps Plus

1.  The framed Golden Sands of Time piece resembles the look of onyx and creates movement within your interior design.

2. Animal heads are very "in" these days and the Leni Bull Wall Art brings real dimensionality to a space. Don't worry, no animals were harmed in the making of this aluminum and bronze bull head!

3. If you don't have room for a full-on gallery wall, a series of prints is a great option for freshening up a space, like the 4-Piece Fashion Sketchbook set.

Area Rugs

Sometimes when we're thinking about quick ways to update a room's look we forget to look down. Area rugs can make a big impact on a design in both color and texture.

Make sure you are selecting the right size area rug for your space by reading our area rug size guide.

Animal print area rug and area rug with classic design from Lamps Plus

1. Bring visual texture into a room with an animal print area rug. Believe it or not, animal print (in the right scale, like this rug from the Safavieh Paradise Collection,) can be used as a neutral. For reals.

2. Area rugs are another great way to bring a new color into a room. The Helena Rug from Kaleen brings a classic pattern in shades of blue and gold into a space.

These five different options will help you give your interiors a fresh new look just in time for Spring!
