Design geeks like myself eagerly await the early-December announcement of Pantone's color of the year. Emerald was just announced as the choice for 2013! Last year's color was Tangerine Tango, a bright and high-energy orange that was perfect for adding pops of color to an interior (but in my opinion, was far too intense to be used beyond decorative sofa pillows and accessories). Emerald is "lively, radiant, and lush. A color of elegance and beauty that enhances our sense of well-being, balance, and harmony", according to Pantone.
Emerald can energize (when paired with citrusy-green hues); provide a nod to our heritage (picture it with deep forest greens and rich plaids); or become truly radiant (when matched with intense cobalt blue or crisp black).
"The most abundant hue in nature, the human eye sees more green than any other color in the spectrum," said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. "As it has throughout history, multifaceted Emerald continues to sparkle and fascinate. Symbolically, Emerald brings a sense of clarity, renewal and rejuvenation, which is so important in today's complex world. This powerful and universally-appealing tone translates easily to both fashion and home interiors."
What do you think of Emerald, the Pantone 2013 Color of the Year? Is this a liveable hue that will find a way into your home?
