As Valentine’s Day rapidly approaches it’s time for some romantic decorating ideas. While flowers and candy are a perfectly good start, a whole room redecoration will really mean you care! Romantic decor can mean many things. To me, it’s all about creating a mood. No need to be vulgar...I do not mean Barry White singing in the background while you present cherry red unmentionables to your loved one.
Romantic rooms offer dimmed light, sparkling crystal chandeliers, and candelabras a la Versailles. Classically inspired decorations such as urns and statues are also very romantic as they remind me of a garden that Jane Austen would have described.
To me, the most romantic style in the world is French furniture and decor. The timeless femininity and sensual lines, sumptuous silk fabric and overall delicacy evokes a time of chivalry, grace and beauty. Even a single French-Style chair in a corner, draped with a beautiful throw, can soften a space and soothe the soul.
A more casual approach to romantic decor can achieved through ruffled white or creamy linen slipcovers and bedding as well as tufted accent furniture...similar to “Shabby Chic” but less juvenile. This look is still sumptuous but a touch more modern, fresh and clean. Regardless of how you achieve it and whatever decorative form it takes, romantic decorating ideas are always in style.
