Coastal style lighting always appears fresh and cheerful. I immediately turned to Shorely Chic for inspirational images and a glimpse into great looks for the coming spring and summer.
It’s never too early to get a jump start on warmer weather decorating.
While I can’t even begin to feel the pain for our friends on the East coast and what they've endured this winter, I hope this humble post inspires you to forge ahead with thoughts of sunnier days.
The formula for coastal style interiors is rather basic. Keep things white, use natural fibers and try not to introduce anything too precious or valuable. Who needs wet children and pets messing up your home?
On a design note, I love the natural rattan hallway pendant lights. The no fuss, relaxed styling evokes an island vibe and can introduce great texture.
White ceiling fans also seem to remain almost invisible if your color scheme is white. Fans come in handy for just about any room in summer, but are especially welcome in second floor bedrooms or rooms tucked in to eaves. Don't forget, heat rises.
Naturally you can infuse your space with color, but a simple palette keeps things, well, simple. I do however love blue for a coastal style home and think it can work in a variety of applications.
The easiest way to add color is through bedding and soft furnishings like seating.
The second way is through paint. Rooms can always be painted over so no need to fret over that type of decision.
The final way is through more permanent forms like tile. Yes, this is a a longer lasting choice, but the payoff can be exquisite. May I present to you the fully blue tiled bath! Divine.
Here are some fantastic lighting options to consider for a coastal living look:
1. Large foyers and dining rooms will become true show stoppers with the Currey and Company Seaward White Sand Chandelier.
2. I like the Jamie Young Tropos Natural Wood Pendant for a casual beach look in a kitchen, playroom or den.
3. Inspired by the sea, the Uttermost Fontanne Shell Ivory Table Lamp has heft while still appearing clean and light.
4. Keeping things cool are key in warmer weather, so consider the Minka Concept I Wet Location White Ceiling Fan.
