For the first time, Pantone has named not one, but two colors as "Color of the Year." This year they are Rose Quartz and Serenity, which are also part of Pantone's spring palette for 2016 that was previously announced.
While your mind is probably going to baby pink and blue, Pantone said that this isn't the aim.Warmth and tranquility are the main aim of the selection.
Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Institute said that "We wanted compassion, which today a lot of people are looking for." She says the colors induce "feelings of stability, constancy, comfort and relaxation," and that they "create balance in a chaotic world."
Rose Quartz and Serenity are easily incorporated into home décor in a variety of ways:
Pantone says that Rose Quartz "reminds us to reflect on our surroundings and Serenity "comforts with a calming effect, bringing a feeling of respite even in turbulent times."
Believe it or not, Rose Quartz and Serenity can act as neutrals in a room. Both shades will look especially beautiful next to brighter colors as it will soften the impact of really bright, saturated colors.
When painted on walls, both Rose Quartz and Serenity impart a feeling of calm. Rose Quartz is slightly warmer than Serenity, so the one you choose to paint your walls with really depends on what you want the feeling of the room to be.
You can also bring the shades in to your space with upholstered furniture, like a beautiful tufted sofa or elegant accent chair or demure slipper chair.
If painting walls or upholstering furniture in these hues is too much of a commitment, accessories are the perfect way to incorporate the colors into your interiors.
Add some decorative pillows in different textures or look for pillows with Rose Quartz and Serenity incorporated into a pattern to keep your pillows from looking too flat. A comfy throw is always an excellent (and cozy) way to bring color into a space.
Fresh (or silk if you want the look to last) flowers like peonies, roses or hydrangeas would be perfect additions to your color scheme.
Colored lamp shades are another quick way to bring these colors into your space.
